Rescue drone which can search buildings wins $1 mililon!

The company Flyability, has created an orb-shaped drone, which can squeeze into tight spaces and search for disaster victims in buildings, has fetched a priced of $1 million at the UAE's Drones For Good competition. The drone, named GimBall is actually a two-propeller, electronically-stabilized gimbal, surrounded by a tough carbon fiber cage.

The development team states it as a "simple to operate, inexpensive tool for rescuers and industrial inspectors, useful in say, a nuclear accident or building collapse."

The drone has been designed in such a way that it can tackle obstacles while moving onto its destination, unlike others who avoid obstacles. It can roll on the ground and bounce off something as well.

It is the world's first collision-proof drone and it defeated 39 other drones at the 2-day event in UAE.

It is said to look similar to the BB-8 drone in the upcoming Star Wars movie.

The product could be commercially release in a year and now with a good amount of funds in hand, the team plans to include smoke detectors as well as infrared sensors to the drone. Here's the video:
