BlackBerry users can now use Android apps

Live from Toronto: RIM'S BlackBerry rolled out a major software update on this Thursday, allowing users of its entire range of BlackBerry 10 devices such as the Z10, Q10 & of course Z30 to access Android apps, and a ton of other features.

The company said the BlackBerry 10 OS v10.3.1 gives its users the ability to access both the BlackBerry World appstore and the Amazon appstore which provides access to a host of Android apps previously unavailable on the entire BlackBerry OS platform.

In addition, BlackBerry said the upgrade will allow its users to access its new BlackBerry Blend feature that impressed many, when it was unveiled earlier in 2K13.

What is BlackBerry Blend?
The Blend feature lets users get message notifications, read & respond to email, text & other messages, while also accessing contacts, calendars, files & other forms of media, on whatever device one is using. It works across many operating systems including Apple's Mac OS, Microsoft's Windows platform & all tablets powered by Google Inc's Android OS.

The software upgrade will also introduce the new BlackBerry Assistant, a digital personal assistant that can be used with voice or text commands to help users manage email, contacts, calendar and other applications. It rivals other offerings such as Apple's Siri Personal Assistant & Samsung's S Voice Personal Assistant.

BlackBerry said subject to carrier approvals, the software upgrade will begin to roll out to customers all around the world, starting Thursday, and will soon be available to Indian users!
