The New Morpheus VR headset. |
Sony, on Tuesday at the Game Developers Conference showed a new prototype of their Virtual Reality headset which is code named Project Morpheus. The model which looks almost same as that of the initial prototype has a lot of better technicalities under the hood according to Sony. The work on the prototype began last year (announced in GDC 2014) and Sony has said that they are close to the final product which will not release before 2016.

Sony has made tremendous changes from the last year's prototype which includes the 5.7 inch OLED 1080p Full HD display from last year's 5 inch display. This revamped HD display enables low persistence and expands the field of view to 100 degrees removing motion blur and allowing a better gaming experience.

The New Specifications. |
Even the refresh rate has been doubled by Sony from the last year's prototype to an amazing 120hz which will allow Morpheus to render games at 120fps. Blend this with PS4's output power and the Full HD screen of Morpheus, this VR won't be anything less than beast of a gaming experience.
The low latency of 18 microseconds is pretty less than that of the initial prototype which is vital to a better gaming experience and couple this with 9 tracking LED's from previous prototype's 6 LED's, Sony has made positional tracking pretty accurate with this VR. The better User Friendly design for the VR headset is easier to put on and take off, with only a single band design which puts the whole weight on top of the head instead of the face and also has a quick release button.

Many components have been adjusted by Sony for the new headset and is also configured to make the headset lighter, so that players do not find the headset uncomfortable to use, says Shuhei Yoshida, president of Worldwide Studios at Sony Computer Entertainment.

Virtual Reality is heading a great way and there's no turning back since tech giants from Google to Sony to Microsoft and every other company wants to have a share of the pie. Samsung introduced Gear VR last December; Oculus announced its Oculus VR and was recently bought by Facebook for $2 Billion; this January Microsoft introduced its Holo Lens Augmented Reality headset which was pretty amazing. It will be interesting to see how this headset VR from Sony turns out to be.
Come Soon 2016!
