RapidShare Is Officially Shutting Down!



The news of Kickass Torrents domain name being seized has been one of the shocking news in the recent times and the another news which tops it is of file sharing and hosting site RapidShare being shut down on 31st March, 2015.
The news which has shocked the netizens as the file sharing site was one of the most popular sharing website and was among the top 3 players for file hosting until recent times when the company started to decline.
Though the company has not stated the reason for the termination of the service but it is being said that the company had embraced the anti piracy measures after the numerous allegations over its copyright infringement after which it scrapped its free service and saw a major decline in customers and the company fired three quarters of its staff in 2013.

The Switzerland based company tried to stay among the top players for cloud storage service but companies like Google and Dropbox offered better services at much lower prices. For example RapidShare charged $680 a year for 300 GB while Dropbox charges $99 a year for 1 TB.
This is an end of an era as the file hosting website was one of the leaders in file sharing and hosting sector with millions of page views in a month and was among the top 50 visited websites until its plunge in user numbers since 2012.
The company has warned all the users to backup their data as the accounts will be deleted automatically from 1st April, 2015 and the extensions for Standard Plus and Premium accounts will be only till 28 February.
