Jailbreaking
iOS
Often you all guys wonder what is “Jailbreak”
or “Jailbreaking”! The
name itself refers to breaking the iOS devices out of its “Jail”. So,It is
nothing but a simple process of removing restriction on iOS
devices, which includes iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and even the second
generation Apple TV. Jailbreak gives us permit to root access to the iOS file system and manager, after which it allows us to download additional third party applications, extensions, and tons of themes through "Cydia" which are not available on the official Apple App Store. A Jailbroken device running iOS can still use the App Store, iTunes, and other regular functions, such as making calls, sms, etc. Note: Restoring an iOS device with iTunes removes Jailbreak.
Reasons for Jailbreaking
iDevices
One of the main reason for jailbreaking iDevices is to expand
the feature set which is limited by Apple and the App Store. Apple checks
applications for compliance with its iOS Developer Program License Agreement
before accepting it for distribution in App Store.
The reasons for banning applications are not limited to
safety and security and it may be regarded as capricious and arbitrary. To
access these banned applications, the users usually rely on jailbreaking to
circumvent the Apple’s censorship of content and features.

- Customization of iDevices
Since the software programs which
are available on Cydia are not required to adhere to App Store guidelines, from
which many of them are not typical self-contained applications but instead they
are extensions and customizations for iOS and other apps. Users can install these programs for
purposes including personalization and customization of the interface, adding desired features which fixes
annoyances, and it even makes development work on the device easier by
providing access to the root filesystem and command-line tools too.
- Use of iPhones on multiple carriers
Jailbreaking also helps to open the
possibility for using a software to unofficially unlock the carrier
locked iPhones, so that they can be used with various carriers. Software
based unlocks have been available since Sept 2007, with a number of tools
applying to a specific iPhone model and baseband version (or multiple
models and versions).
